West Kernow Way explores western Cornwall on a largely off-road loop from Penzance. Cycling UK’s itinerary forms a figure of eight, linking rugged coastlines, mining landscapes and historic tracks.
Cornwall’s coast and landmarks
The route passes the Tin Coast and Botallack mines, the Bronze Age monument Mên-an-Tol, Land’s End, St Michael’s Mount and Lizard Point. Its combination of famous landmarks and less familiar trails gives the journey a strong coastal and historical character.
Quiet roads, bridleways, byways and old miners’ routes connect these places. Parts use the Tinner’s Way, an ancient route later important for transporting ore during Cornwall’s mining era.
A multi-day off-road journey
The launch guide suggests three to four days for the loop. The route was developed to combine adventure with local landscapes, culture and food, and launched in September 2021 as part of an initiative encouraging visits outside the busiest summer period.
