ViaRhôna connects Lake Geneva with the Mediterranean through the Rhône valley. The journey links lakeside towns, Lyon and the landscapes of Provence before dividing into coastal approaches through the Camargue.

From the lake towards Lyon

Saint-Gingolph is the official start beside Lake Geneva. Évian, Thonon, Yvoire and Geneva connect the lakeshore with vineyards and the upper Rhône. Farther south, the route passes the Bugey before reaching Lyon.

Provence and the Mediterranean

Vienne’s Roman heritage, terraced vineyards and orchards give way to Valence and the landscapes around Avignon. In the south, one branch leads through Arles towards Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône; another continues via Saint-Gilles and Aigues-Mortes towards Palavas and Sète.

Choose sections to suit your ride

The official guide presents 25 sections, with individual descriptions and conditions. Some northern stretches use busy roads: the publisher recommends experienced riders for the Saint-Gingolph approach and suggests Thonon or Geneva as starting points for families.

Around Lyon–Givors, the guide recommends a train connection because of demanding provisional sections. Consult the section descriptions, route notices and Accueil Vélo service listings when choosing an itinerary.
