Vennbahn follows a former railway between Aachen in Germany and Troisvierges in Luxembourg, crossing Belgium along the way. Its 125 km link border towns, woodland, moorland and river valleys.

A railway route through three countries

The route is fully asphalted and follows the railway’s gentle gradients. It belongs to Wallonia’s RAVeL programme for non-motorised travel and can be ridden in either direction.

Six official stages divide the journey: Aachen–Raeren, Raeren–Monschau, Monschau–Waimes, Waimes–St. Vith, St. Vith–Burg-Reuland and Burg-Reuland–Troisvierges.

What changes along the way

The northern stages pass Kornelimünster and repeatedly cross the Belgian–German border around Roetgen. Beyond Monschau, the landscape opens towards the High Fens before continuing through the Ardennes foothills.

South of St. Vith, the route reaches the Our valley and Lommersweiler tunnel. The final stage passes Reuland Castle and Lengeler tunnel towards Luxembourg.

Planning the ride

The official portal provides an interactive map, GPX file, accommodation listings and information about train or taxi returns. Eleven additional loops offer rides on and beside the main Vennbahn; the railway route itself remains one continuous itinerary.
