VeloDunajec links Zakopane with Wietrzychowice near the Dunajec’s meeting with the Vistula. The approximately 237 km journey passes from Podhale and the Pieniny mountains into lower river valleys and the plains north of Tarnów.

From Zakopane to the Dunajec Gorge

The suggested start is Zakopane railway station, continuing through Poronin, Biały Dunajec and Szaflary towards Nowy Targ. Farther east, the route reaches the Lake Czorsztyn area and Niedzica.

The southern lakeside approach includes the demanding climb towards Falsztyn. From Sromowce Niżne, the itinerary crosses into Slovakia by footbridge and follows a gravel section through the Dunajec Gorge towards Szczawnica.

Downstream connections

At Stary Sącz the route joins VeloNatura, EuroVelo 11, sharing the corridor towards Ostrów. Farther north, it continues independently towards Wietrzychowice and the Vistula Cycle Route.

Infrastructure and planning

The official description states that the full infrastructure is not yet complete. Its proposed itinerary includes diversions on ordinary roads, with traffic and additional climbing on some sections.

Use the publisher’s proposed GPX, regional PDF maps and obstruction map to plan the ride. The route includes both separated asphalt paths and road sections, so choose stages according to experience.
