Tauernradweg connects Krimml with Salzburg and Passau, combining Alpine scenery with river touring through Austria and Germany. A Saalach valley option offers another way to link Salzburg and the Zell am See area.
Choosing the direction and stages
The portal groups the main journey into Krimml–Bruck or Zell am See, Bruck–Golling, Golling–Salzburg, Salzburg–Braunau and Braunau–Passau. It recommends travelling from Pinzgau towards Salzburg or Passau for the generally favourable gradient.
Most of the route is asphalted and signs guide riders in both directions. Different variants have different lengths, so use the map for the itinerary you choose.
Route changes to follow
The portal reports a closure between Weißbach-Frohnwies and the Dießbach power station because of rockfall risk, with a signed diversion on the B311.
In Neukirchen am Großvenediger, the revised route follows the Salzach from Sulzaubrücke and turns towards the centre at Einödsteg. The former Rohrergasse section is private and must not be used.
Arrival and return
Salzburg, Saalfelden and Zell am See are suggested railway access points. The route portal also describes Pinzgauer Lokalbahn connections and bookable cycle-bus returns from Passau; check the services for your chosen dates.
