Sjuhäradsrundan connects Borås, Ulricehamn, Tranemo and Svenljunga in a loop through western Sweden. West Sweden Trails describes a route shaped largely by former railway embankments, with cafés, accommodation and places to explore along the way.

A loop through Sjuhärad

The route links four municipalities in a circuit, so Borås is a convenient reference point rather than a compulsory start. West Sweden Trails presents the loop in four sections. Much of the journey follows old railway embankments, while Borås City describes a mixture of cycle paths, paved rail corridors and lightly trafficked roads.

The former railway gives long stretches a relatively gentle profile, but the whole loop should not be assumed to be traffic-free. Borås City notes that the Kindsbanan section between Svenljunga and Borås is also used by a small amount of motor traffic.

From Borås towards Lake Åsunden

Leaving Borås towards Ulricehamn, the old railway corridor carries riders past fields, meadows and lakes. The regional tourism guide identifies occasional hills near Gånghester and Lofors, and suggests stops at the old mill pond in Dalsjöfors and the swimming area near Rångedala.

Ulricehamn offers a lakeside pause beside Åsunden. Its former railway area includes boathouses, and the old station houses the tourist office. Continuing towards Tranemo, the route follows the lake beneath wooded slopes and passes through a tunnel beyond Skottek. Benches and tables along this stretch make it possible to pause for a picnic.

Tranemo, Uddebo and the return

The section between Tranemo and Svenljunga passes farms and grazing land. In Tranemo, the cycle path runs through the community near the lake and its distinctive church. Uddebo adds a different perspective on the area, with buildings that recall its industrial history.

The regional tourism guide describes the signed route beyond Uddebo as a hilly gravel road. It also describes a paved alternative, part of which uses a busier county road. Choose with both surface and traffic in mind. From Svenljunga, the circuit returns towards Borås along the former Kindsbanan railway.

Planning a ride

The loop can be joined in whichever town suits your trip, and ridden in either direction. The Sjuhärad tourism guide suggests the harbour beside Strandgatan and Lake Åsunden as an access point in Ulricehamn. In Tranemo, it points riders towards the area opposite the church on Brogatan.

Allow time for the towns and lakes as well as the riding. Cafés, accommodation and sights are described along the route, but check individual services before relying on them. West Sweden Trails provides a planning tool for exploring places along the trail.
