The cycling itinerary of Ruta Vía de la Plata crosses Spain from Seville to Gijón. Its approximately 900 km link Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla y León and Asturias on a long-distance mountain-bike journey.

Four regions from south to north

Olive-growing country gives way to Extremadura’s dehesa pasturelands, the central plateau and the valleys of northern Spain. The route combines changing landscapes with towns and heritage along the historical corridor.

Short sections to build your itinerary

Spain.info describes 49 sections of approximately 10–20 km. These provide building blocks for choosing riding days rather than a fixed 49-day schedule.

The cycle itinerary follows the historical and tourism corridor where possible, with deviations designed to use safer alternatives. The dedicated route portal provides maps, tracks and services including workshops, accommodation and bicycle hire.

Timing and practical preparation

The tourism authority recommends spring to avoid the strongest summer heat, particularly in the south. Carry water and basic repair equipment, since supplies may be less convenient on some sections.

The route information includes bicycle-repair stations, e-bike charging points and a cycling passport. This itinerary continues to Gijón; pilgrimage connections towards Santiago branch onto other routes.
