Nadwarciański Szlak Rowerowy follows the Warta through river landscapes, historic towns and areas of woodland and lakes. Wielkopolska’s regional tourism organisation describes it as two connected parts, with the Poznań cycling junction serving as a reference point for both. The route belongs to the Wielkopolska cycling trail system and is also known by the abbreviation NSR.

East from Poznań towards Jeziorsko

The eastern section heads through Mosina and Rogaliński Landscape Park before reaching the Krajkowo nature reserve, an area protecting Warta oxbow lakes and riverside woodland. Farther along are Śrem and Nowe Miasto nad Wartą, where the regional tourism organisation highlights Gothic churches, and Czeszewo, with a wooden church and a former half-timbered inn.

The route continues through the Żerkowsko-Czeszewski and Nadwarciański landscape parks towards Konin. Beyond the city, its places of interest include Koło, with Gothic castle ruins, Chełmno, the site of a former Nazi extermination camp, and Uniejów, with a Gothic church and castle. The eastern end is at the Jeziorsko reservoir.

West through forests and lake country

The western section leaves Poznań towards Biedrusko and continues through Oborniki, Stobnica, Obrzycko and Wronki. Beyond Wartosław, Chojno and Bucharzewo it reaches Sieraków, before finishing in Międzychód. Wielkopolska’s tourism organisation describes this part as running mainly through forests and among lakes.

Oborniki municipality suggests several points of interest along this side of the trail, including Śnieżycowy Jar nature reserve, the town hall in Obrzycko and the natural scenery of Sieraków Landscape Park. These provide reasons to break the journey into shorter outings around the places that interest you.

River landscapes around Konin

Konin County’s description of its local section places the trail near fields, meadows, willow floodplains and oxbow lakes. Its itinerary passes the wooden Church of St James in Rzgów, continues through Sławsk and Konin, and then heads east towards Koło.

The county description includes a Warta ferry crossing at Biechowy, followed by an unpaved road beside a flood embankment. Check the crossing arrangements before relying on this section: the published timetable may change. The Greater Poland landscape parks authority also notes that cyclists can reach Nadwarciański Landscape Park on the trail from Poznań, Śrem or Konin.

Planning a ride

Poznań is a useful place to choose between the eastern river-valley journey and the western ride towards the lake district. The regional tourism organisation cautions that the route often runs away from larger settlements, so consider where to stop for supplies when selecting a section.

Look for the NSR abbreviation on maps. The regional description identifies the trail marking as a black bicycle on a white background with a blue directional mark. Konin County names the Marshal’s Office of the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poznań as the trail administrator.
