The Moravian Cycle Path, known locally as Moravská stezka, connects the Czech-Polish border area with southern Moravia. The route description published by Moravská stezka, z.s. starts in Mikulovice and divides the journey into six sections ending in Břeclav. Along the way, the landscape changes from the Jeseníky Mountains to the Morava river corridor, historic towns and the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape.
From the border to the Morava
The association's route begins in Mikulovice and passes through Písečná and Česká Ves to Jeseník. The water fortress in Jeseník houses a regional museum, while the Na Špičáku caves and the Čertovy kameny viewpoint are suggested excursions from villages earlier in the journey.
Beyond Jeseník, the route uses local and minor roads through Lipová-lázně and Horní Lipová. A significant climb leads to Ramzová, the highest point of the association's itinerary. The descent continues towards Branná and Hanušovice, where the route begins following the Morava River. The association also describes options towards Šumperk or Zábřeh from Bludov.
Floodplain forests and historic cities
The second section passes largely through the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area, an area of meandering river, wetlands and floodplain forest. Olomouc provides a substantial city stop, with Baroque monuments to explore before continuing south.
From Olomouc the association follows cycle route 47 across the Haná region towards Kroměříž. The itinerary passes villages including Dub nad Moravou, known for its pilgrimage church. VisitCzechia also highlights the château and gardens at Kroměříž, listed as UNESCO World Heritage.
The Baťa Canal and southern Moravia
South of Kroměříž, the fourth section travels by the Morava and the Baťa Canal, passing Kvasice and Otrokovice towards Uherské Hradiště. At Kvasice, the association notes that the château is not open to the public.
The next section heads towards Hodonín. Riders can visit the aviation museum at Kunovice, or take the association's alternative via Kostelany and rejoin the trail at Ostrožská Nová Ves. Uherský Ostroh has a Renaissance château with an arcaded courtyard.
From Hodonín, the final section follows the Morava south before turning towards Břeclav ahead of the confluence with the Dyje. Pohansko, with its château and early Slavic fortified settlement, is a landmark near the end of the association's itinerary and forms part of the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape.
Putting a trip together
The association presents the journey as six sections, making it possible to choose a shorter part or connect several sections into a longer trip. The northern mountain crossing deserves particular attention when choosing a starting point: the association suggests Ramzová as an alternative start for riders who want to avoid the preceding climb.
Allow time for places away from the saddle as well as the route itself. Olomouc and Kroměříž offer city visits, while the southern itinerary has options around Uherské Hradiště and Pohansko. Check current route conditions and local opening arrangements before setting out.
