La Vélomaritime is the French section of EuroVelo 4, following the Channel and North Sea coasts from Roscoff to Dunkirk. Its nearly 1,500 km connect Brittany, Normandy and the northern coastline through a mix of ports, bays and historic sites.

From Brittany towards Normandy

The western stages begin at Roscoff’s port and continue through Morlaix and along the Pink Granite Coast. Lannion, Perros-Guirec, Tréguier and Paimpol introduce estuaries, coastal towns and rocky headlands.

Farther east, Saint-Malo and Cancale lead towards Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay. The Normandy landing beaches and Étretat’s cliffs are among the major sites along the wider itinerary.

Towards Dunkirk

The route continues past the Bay of the Somme and the Opal Coast before reaching Dunkirk near the Belgian border. The official portal divides the French itinerary into 53 stages.

Riding character and planning

A substantial proportion uses roads shared with motor traffic. Several Breton stages involve repeated climbs, so coastal riding here can be demanding despite the sea-level setting.

Stage pages provide distances and riding-difficulty descriptions. The official website also offers GPS tracks, accommodation information, access guidance and suggestions for shorter cycling breaks.
