Kattegattleden follows Sweden’s west coast for 390 km between Helsingborg and Gothenburg. Sweden’s first national cycle route links seaside villages, nature reserves, beaches and places to sample local food.
Eight coastal sections
The southern sections run from Helsingborg to Höganäs, Höganäs to Ängelholm and Ängelholm to Båstad. The next section connects Båstad, Laholm and Halmstad.
Continuing north, the route links Halmstad to Falkenberg, Falkenberg to Varberg, Varberg to Kungsbacka and Kungsbacka to Gothenburg. The eight-section structure lets you choose a shorter coastal trip or combine the whole journey.
Planning stops and navigation
The official map planner shows places to visit and practical points including water supplies. Stage information is accompanied by accommodation and food options, with the sea remaining close to the route.
GPX downloads and printed cycling maps are available through the official website. It also lists bicycle hire, baggage transport and tour-operator options.
Short rides and return journeys
The route portal suggests riding a single section and returning by train as an alternative to travelling the full distance. Check the current diversion and disruption notices when choosing your dates and stages.
