The Elberadweg follows the Elbe corridor from the Krkonoše Mountains in Czechia to the North Sea in Germany. Dresden, Magdeburg and Hamburg provide city stops along a journey that can be ridden in sections.

Choosing a section

The official guide puts the cycle route at approximately 1,270 km, longer than the river because the path does not always stay close to its banks. It suggests allowing at least two weeks for the whole journey.

Shorter examples include Dresden to Dessau-Roßlau at around 260 km, Magdeburg to Hamburg at around 370 km and Dresden to Hamburg at around 600 km. The separately listed Prague connections offer another itinerary choice.

Daily distances and transport

For occasional cyclists, the guide suggests around 30–40 km a day; experienced touring riders might plan 60–70 km. Choose a section that leaves time for your preferred stops.

Dresden, Wittenberg, Dessau, Magdeburg, Wittenberge, Hamburg and Cuxhaven are among the suggested start or finish points with public transport access.

Accommodation and luggage

Book accommodation ahead during holidays and long weekends. Luggage transport requires advance registration of at least 24 hours and confirmed overnight stops so the service knows where to collect and deliver bags.
