Ciclovia Alpe Adria connects Salzburg in Austria with Grado on Italy’s Adriatic coast. The route crosses Alpine landscapes and uses former railway alignments and tunnels on its way south to the sea.
Eight stages across the Alps
The official itinerary covers 415 km in eight stages. Its published profile totals 5,410 m of climbing and 5,804 m of descent, so the journey includes substantial ascent even though it finishes at the coast.
The portal presents the ride as a combination of landscape, culture and regional food, with separate resources for places of interest and accommodation along the route.
Transport and trip planning
The route website provides an interactive map, services and mobility information, and a travel planner for transport suitable for cycle tourists. Booking centres offer additional help arranging a trip.
Check the current transport notices before fixing travel dates. The portal lists MICOTRA timetable changes for 28 September–11 December 2026 and a Tauern Tunnel closure notice for spring 2027, both relevant to planning connections.
