The Bečva Cycle Path brings together two river valleys in eastern Czechia. One branch follows the Rožnovská Bečva from Horní Bečva, the other the Vsetínská Bečva from Velké Karlovice. They meet at Valašské Meziříčí, where the journey can continue downstream towards the Morava. The route is presented by the association Cyklostezka Bečva, z.s.

The two upper valleys

The Rožnovská Bečva branch connects Horní Bečva with Valašské Meziříčí via Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. The reservoir at Horní Bečva is a place to pause near the upper end, while Rožnov offers the Wallachian Open-air Museum, where traditional timber buildings and regional life provide context for the landscape.

The Vsetínská Bečva branch runs from Velké Karlovice through Vsetín to the same meeting point. CzechTourism highlights the valley’s glassmaking heritage, timber buildings and the Balaton reservoir between Karolinka and Nový Hrozenkov. Each branch offers a separate way to approach Valašské Meziříčí; riders can choose the places they want to visit when deciding which valley to explore.

Downstream towards Tovačov

From Valašské Meziříčí, the Bečva section heads towards Tovačov and the river’s meeting with the Morava. The regional tourism organisation describes a journey through Hranice, Lipník nad Bečvou and Přerov, linking the Wallachian hills with the Moravian Gate and Haná.

The towns give the ride a cultural dimension alongside the river scenery. The route association points to historic centres and to museums, castles and chateaux on or near the itinerary. Regional tourism suggestions include the Zbrašov Aragonite Caves at Teplice nad Bečvou, Helfštýn Castle near Týn nad Bečvou and Tovačov Chateau.

Path character and trip planning

Much of the route uses sections closed to motor traffic, but it is not a continuous traffic-free path. The association also describes low-traffic local roads and paved forest and field tracks. Regional tourism information identifies a road section between Troubky and Tovačov, so check the details of the part you intend to ride.

Valašské Meziříčí is a useful reference point when choosing between the two upper valleys and the downstream route. Plan time for stops according to your interests, and check local notices and the association’s route description shortly before travelling.

Closures to check

The association warns of a long-term closure between Grymov and Oldřichov and says a detour is marked. A separate notice published by Hustopeče nad Bečvou concerns closure and diversion signing for route 50 in that municipality during remediation work; the temporary traffic arrangement runs until 30 December 2027, subject to changes in the closure period.

These notices concern different places. Check their latest status and any local signs when preparing a downstream trip, rather than assuming that the entire riverside itinerary is open.
